I am a former software engineer turned industrial designer, currently working on his master’s degree in Design and Industry at San Francisco State University. I shifted my focus away from Java and Flash ActionScript in favor of designing and building “real” things because I got tired of sitting in front of a computer all day and wanted a more creative pursuit. Still, I haven’t turned in my geek credentials altogether, and still spend a good amount of time hacking Linux-based open source projects.
My reasons for maintaining this weblog are twofold: first, it serves as a searchable repository for some of my more esoteric posts regarding programming and Linux, and second, it serves as an online journal as I work on my master’s thesis. My hope is that Google works its magic and that those with similar interests may find and participate in this ongoing discussion.
My specialties as a designer are design research and computer-related technological applications. I tend to approach design from a relatively academic perspective; I am more interested in process, usability and research than pretty forms and fancy renderings. In particular, I am interested in the (still nebulous) idea of “open source design“.
I can be contacted at “blog”-at-[the domain name of this website].
